WhatsApp check-ins for your coaching clients
Most of a client's change happens between sessions, often on the app they already use most. Here is how daily WhatsApp check-ins work in Locus, what your clients receive, and what you see.
Why WhatsApp
Your clients already open WhatsApp every day. A check-in that arrives there gets read, and a reply takes a line or a voice note, not a login. With Locus your clients don't install anything: they open your link once, choose their action, and connect WhatsApp by pressing send on a message with a code already typed in.
What a day of check-ins looks like
Each client chooses one small action, a cue for when it happens, and a smaller version for hard days. Then Locus checks in twice a day, at the times they picked.
Morning
One question about how they're feeling, and one about when they'll take today's step. Locus's standard wording, for a client whose action is a short walk after lunch:
Good morning, Maya. Before the day takes over, what's on your mind? Today's step toward the person you're becoming: a 10-minute walk after lunch. When will you take it?
Evening
What happened, plus three quick ratings that build a trend you can see over the quarter.
How did today go? A line or a voice note is perfect, plus 1–10 for confidence, sense of control, and stress.
Did the walk, only 5 minutes though. Busy day. 6 5 7
Locus logs it and says back what it recorded, so a mistake is caught the same day. The smaller version counts as showing up. Voice notes are turned into text for the journal; the recording itself isn't kept.
Rest days
On the days a client chose to rest, Locus sends one light note that asks for nothing, so the chat never goes silent for days.
In your words, under your name
- Your practice name on every message. Clients see "Your practice · via Locus". Locus says it is automated and that you see what they share. It speaks for you, never as you.
- Your approach. When you add your practice, you describe how you coach in a few sentences. Locus uses your language.
- Your wording, if you want it. You can rewrite the morning, evening and rest-day messages yourself, with a live preview. Locus fills in each client's name, action, cue and smaller version.
What Locus won't do in the chat
- No chasing. No reply is recorded as unknown, never as a miss, and it never sets off a chain of reminders.
- No streaks and no shame words. Counts only add up ("ten walks in eleven days"). Words like "failed", "behind" and "streak" are blocked, even in your own custom wording.
- No diet, weight or medical advice. Locus never sets weight, calorie or food targets. Those calls stay with you.
- No guessing in a crisis. If a message suggests distress, Locus stops coaching, replies with a short caring message, and flags it to you straight away.
For clients who don't want AI
Any client can choose No AI, at signup or later. Their check-ins are written in advance, and the evening message comes with three buttons: Done, Smaller version, Not today. Fixed rules log the answer. No AI reads anything they send, and you still see their progress, counted straight from their journal.
What you see
Every reply goes into the client's journal, which they share with you and nobody else. Your practice page shows a weekly view of who is building, who is steady, who has gone quiet, and who needs you now. Before each session you can get a prep brief: see the template it follows.
Common questions
Can clients get text messages instead?
Not yet. Plain text messages to US numbers are waiting on carrier approval. Today, check-ins run on WhatsApp.
Does my client need to download anything?
No. They use WhatsApp, which most people already have, and open your link in their phone's browser once to set up. More on that in habit tracking with no app.
Who can read the messages?
The client and you. Clients can stop sharing at any time, pause check-ins, send STOP, or delete everything. The privacy page has the details.
Try it with your clients
